Recognizing Issues in Special Education

What is RISE?
RISE, a subcommittee of the UFRE/MS PTA, is a group of parents, educators and friends working together for the benefit of children with special needs.  We provide information and support to parents and work as partners with school personnel for the benefit of all children.

What does RISE do?

  • We offer topical or issue oriented meetings throughout the school year, sometimes bringing in guest speakers.
  • We report general concerns raised at our meetings to the PTA Executive Board and School Administration, advocating for students with special needs.
  • We coordinate the RISE Parents' Network - which provides "Support Parents" to consult with families who are new to special education, have concerns about their child's Individualized Education Program (IEP), or need support in the IEP process.
  • RISE Parent's Network Support Meetings - parent only meetings focused on problem solving.
  • We manage the RISE Collection, books and other materials related to special education and disabilities, available for sign out in the Elementary/Middle School Media Center.
  • We sponsor Inclusive Schools Week.
  • We provide an information page on the schools' website.
  • We administer a RISE e-mail list to keep you up to date with happenings in our school. to provide information about special education related topics and trainings, and to forward on legislative action alerts.
