Scholarship Information - October 2008

The New England Institute of Technology is pleased to offer all high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to participate in a variety of high school competitions.  The competitions are designed to encourage students to explore career choices and the employment skills required.    The top three winning students in each contest will be recognized with NEIT tuition scholarships ranging from $1000 to $2000.  Any questions may be directed to Amanda Metzger, Special Events Coordinator, at 800-736-7744 extension 3377.  Contest information and registration can be found at the "What's New" section located on NEIT's website, www.neit.edu.

New Jersey Youth Soccer (NJYS) announces that it is accepting applications for both the 2008-2009 Paul Hausser Scholarship Award and the Jeanine Willis Scholarship Award.   Applications must be received by December 15, 2008 to be considered.   Information, requirements, and applications can be found at www.NJYouthSoccer.com

KFC COLONEL'S SCHOLARS PROGRAM

KFC Colonel's Scholars Program is looking for outstanding seniors with financial need and entrepreneurial spirit to qualify for the KFC Colonel's Scholars program. Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board. To qualify, graduating high school seniors must: earn a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.75; enroll in a public college or university within their state of legal residence; plan to pursue a bachelor's degree; be a US citizen or permanent resident; demonstrate financial need. The online scholarship application will be available from December 1, 2008, to February 10, 2009, at www.kfcscholars.org. For questions, visit the website or call toll-free 1-866 FC-7240. The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits.  They are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.  Deadline - June 27, 2009 Amount of Award - $500.00  The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution. The Trenton St. Patrick's Parade and Scholarship Committee is now accepting applications for their 2009 Miss St. Patrick Contest.  The committee will award college scholarships to a Miss Saint Patrick and runner-ups, ranging from $500 to $3000.  The contest is open to young women between 17 and 21 years of age who meet one of the following qualifications: 1. reside in Mercer County; 2. attend a Mercer County school or college; 3. has a parent or grandparent belonging to a Mercer County Irish organization; or 4. is a member in good standing in a Mercer County Irish organization.  The deadline for application is December 5, 2008.  Application forms and additional information are available in the Guidance office, at www.trentonparade.com , or by calling Chairwoman Megan Watson at 609-324-2848.

The Ayn Rand Institute announces its The Fountainead essay contest.  Available to 11th and 12th graders, winners may receive $50 - $2,000 with a first prize of $10,000.  Essay topics and entry rules are available at http://www.aynrand.org/site/PageServer?pagename=education_contests_tf .  Essays must be submitted online or postmarked by April 25, 2009. 

The Humane Education Network, in partnership with the Palo Alto Humane Society, sponsors its "A Voice for Animals" essay contest.  The contest is open to all high school students.  Prizes are awarded to high school students whose essays best promote the humane treatment of animals in the United States.  Prizes are from $50-$1,000.  Applications are due by March 10, 2009.  Information may be found at http://www.hennet.org .
