Video Production Portfolio Rubric

The video production portfolio should consist of 3-4 video projects, which highlight the applicant's use of shot basics, audio, editing and graphics.
Suggested projects for portfolio:

  • PSA
  • Documentary
  • Music Video
  • Graphic Animation or Stop Motion Animation
  • News Package
  • Highlight Reel
  • Computer Graphic/Logo design

Has the student been able to demonstrate the effective use of shot basics (Camera) The student has demonstrated a successful understanding of shot basics and principles of the assignment criteria. (Better use of natural sound and music usage, mic placement, even levels) The student has demonstrated a partial understanding of Audio. (uneven levels, some natural sound, improper mic usage, distracting music usage, audio missing) The student has demonstrated little understanding of Audio. (Audio poor quality and distracting, uneven levels from scenes, no natural sound, improper or no mic usage, poor use of music)
Has the student been able to demonstrate the effective use of Editing Basics. The student has demonstrated a successful understanding of Editing Basics. (Content well organized, skillful sequence, choice of transitions, choice of transitions is functional and enhances production.) The student has demonstrated a basic understanding of Editing Basics. (Good use of transitions, sequence of events, B-Roll footage, clean edits, meets time limits.) The student has demonstrated a partial understanding of Editing Basics. (Some distracting use of transitions, jump cuts, unorganized sequence of events, extensive use of talking heads.) The student has demonstrated a little understanding of Editing Basics. (Distracting or no use of transitions, jump cuts, over or under time limit, no variation of shots, boring, talking heads.)
Has the student been able to demonstrate the effective use of Graphics. The student has demonstrated a successful understanding of Graphics. (Consistent use of ID's and maintains color scheme, enhances production.) The student has demonstrated a basic understanding of Graphics. (Good use of graphics lower thirds, color schemes, full page, and side presentation.) The student has demonstrated a partial understanding of Graphics. (Choice of graphics distracts attention somewhat from message, some lower thirds, inconsistent use/colors.) The student has demonstrated a little understanding of Graphics. (Graphics wording in particular confusing and/or illegible, non-existence, no lower thirds, credits.)
